Dear GNJ Leaders and our congregations,
Journalist and social activist Ida Wells once said, “The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them.” This month we celebrate women and all the light they bring. The following are essential actions and information for this week. We encourage you to read this information carefully as it impacts your congregations and your communities.
1. Leadership Survey – All Clergy and Laity
GNJ leadership is once again surveying our congregations so that we can track over time how our ministry is changing and assess the needs of the local church. Full participation is needed for GNJ leadership to make the best decisions about the conference’s direction, ministry and service. All clergy and laity are asked to complete the survey, which should take about 15 minutes, by March 30 so that there is time for assessment before moving forward. Please complete the survey.
2. Food Distribution/School Lunches – All Clergy and Laity
Hunger Free NJ, a program of Center for Food Action that provides emergency services to New Jersey’s poorest and most vulnerable residents, is asking food pantries to advertise the P-EBT (Pandemic electronic benefit transfer) for eligible students starting this month. The organization has asked all partners to share the information via social media or other platforms as the state readies a plan to distribute the next round of aid to families in need. For details, including social media graphics in multiple languages, click here.
3. New Vaccine Updates – All Clergy and Laity
In New Jersey, where more than three million people have been vaccinated, more educators are now eligible for vaccinations. This will enable schools to prepare for full in-person classes this fall. For additional details in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, including educational resources to share with your congregations to build trust in the vaccines’ efficacy and safety, click here.
4. Reminder: GNJ Staff Renewal Time – All Clergy and Laity
We ask that you please plan ahead for the week when GNJ staff will be on renewal leave (March 29-April 5) by addressing any concern you may have prior to March 26. Following the week off, staff will return any phone call or email as soon as possible after they return on April 6. In the event of an emergency, please contact Director of Human Resources and Superintending Support Team Jay Kim.
In Christ,
GNJ Leadership
