Full Time Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministry

Duties and Responsibilities
Youth Ministries:

  • Work with and develop volunteers and leaders to develop a robust youth discipleship program.
  • Collaborate with leaders on curriculum and scheduling.
  • Collaborate with leaders on missional outreach including mission trips locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Collaborate with leaders on attending conference retreat weekends such as Ignite, Mid-Winter Advance, Creation etc.

Family and Children’s Ministries:

  • Collaborate with Sunday School Superintendent to plan, implement and grow the Sunday School program. This includes developing a curriculum, annual teachers meeting, Safe Sanctuary training.
  • Ensure compliance of all child care staff, teachers, and volunteers with UMC Safe Sanctuaries Policy through screening, training, and scheduling of all volunteers with children according to the policy.
  • Plan and coordinate family events in collaboration with Church Council, including seasonal events and other activities.
  • Collaborate with leaders on missional outreach including mission trips locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Collaborate with families to equip them to build discipleship within the family unit.

Working Relationship and Other Expectations
The Senior Pastor shall be the immediate supervisor and shall report to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) concerning job performance.

Regular attendance at worship services and functions of the church is expected.

This is a business relationship and no special privileges will be granted or should be expected.

The Youth Minister shall meet with the SPRC at least once per year at the regularly scheduled meeting, usually in October for a review of job performance, also for an opportunity to present needs or suggestions to better improve working conditions and relationships. At the time of the annual review the SPRC shall decide on the continuation of employment of the Youth Minister and shall present their decision to the Leadership Team for confirmation.

Youth Minister will have off for all holidays recognized by the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference.

Daily/weekly schedule and required number of hours to be agreed upon by the Senior Pastor, the SPRC and the Youth Minister. This is a full-time position with an expectation of requiring approximately 40 hours per week.

A salary range of $35,000 – 40,000 per year shall be provided, payable biweekly and reviewed annually at the time of preparation of the church budget, in order to consider adjustment due to the cost of living, merit, and longevity and/or proper reflection of additional duties on the part of the Youth Minister.

Qualifications

  • Provide a personal testimony describing his/her call to ministry
  • Exhibit passion for ministry with youth
  • Provide a profile of his/her theological stance
  • Provide evidence of experience with youth ministry and/or provide evidence of theological education or training
  • Provide an understanding of and devotion to teaching the doctrine and theology of the United Methodist Church
  • Provide at least 2 recommendations from colleagues in ministry
  • Must be able to pass the background check process used by the United Methodist Church of New Jersey
