In June of 2024, seven deserving graduate students stood proudly in front of the congregation of Epworth United Methodist Church in Palmyra, NJ. They were there to accept scholarships awarded through Epworth’s Mandeville Scholarship program, welcomed by Pastor Rachel Callender, herself a Mandeville recipient in 2016.
The Mandeville Scholarship program began over 30 years ago, through a generous gift from Doris and Arthur Mandeville to Epworth Methodist Church. Since that time, over $235,000 in scholarships have been awarded to more than 100 individual recipients.
2024 marked the highest number of applications ever received in one year, with 10 grateful students awarded funding to assist in their ongoing efforts preparing for leadership within the United Methodist Church. (Three award recipients were unable to attend the celebration due to commitments at the churches they were currently serving.)
Today, we encourage applications from full-time/permanent part-time graduate students who are members of the United Methodist Church in New Jersey and preparing for ordained ministry or Christian education. Awards are based on financial need with academic achievement, church involvement, and community involvement also taken into consideration. Note that preference will be given to those applicants who plan to serve in New Jersey after graduation.
If you would like to be considered for a scholarship grant, you may access the application via the Epworth website at: www.palmyranjumc.org or you can send in a request to EpworthPGScholarship2025@gmail.com
